Sue provides retirement coaching.

Is this YOU?

Most of the clients who come to see Sue for retirement coaching are within two years of retiring or have already retired. Although they come from a variety of professional backgrounds, and varying life circumstances, they all tend to fall into one of the following categories:

  • They are deeply satisfied in their career and find it hard to get intentional about planning a life beyond this. These people struggle to imagine ever retiring.

  • They are putting off retirement because they worry about becoming lonely, irrelevant or disappearing into the background.

  • They experience a strong sense of dread or anxiety which becomes paralysing. They keep working without fully knowing whether their career and work decisions are serving them anymore.

  • They have been pushed into retirement and are struggling with their new life. They feel a bit lost.

‘Retiring’ is a transition.

At its heart, ‘retiring’ is about transitioning out of the paid workforce. This process can take many twists and turns, and last a short or long time. Some of the paths Sue sees people follow include:

  • Continuing fulltime employment

  • Tapering: reducing paid hours over time

  • Down shifting: taking a lower grade job

  • Unretiring: returning to paid work after ‘retirement’

  • Starting a new business or enterprise

  • Volunteering or taking up social action

  • Launching into new art, craft, sport, or leisure pursuits.

The transition is most often accompanied by a significant shift in identity and purpose.

Coaching can support you.

Coaching offers many benefits to people as they get ready to retire including:

  • Helping you identify and clarify your goals and values for retirement.

  • Assisting you to explore your options and create a plan for retirement.

  • Providing support and guidance as you navigate the emotional and psychological aspects of retirement.

  • Helping you develop strategies for maintaining connections and finding purpose in retirement.

  • Encouraging you to take steps to maintain your physical and mental well-being.

  • Assisting you to identify and develop new hobbies, interests, and activities to engage in during retirement.

Retirement coaching can also help to allay fears about the unknown and help you to develop a positive attitude about your new chapter of life.

By working with Sue, you will develop a sense of self-awareness and understanding of the implications of your decisions as you prepare for retirement, and begin to chart your own course through this major life transition. Having this clarity will help you move forward with great momentum backed by the confidence that you are on the right path: your path.
